Situation, Task, Action, Result. The structure is well known; the execution is usually where it falls apart.

Where people go wrong

  • Spending 80% of the answer on Situation. Keep it to two sentences.
  • Saying “we” throughout. The interviewer is assessing you — say what you did.
  • Stopping before the Result. The result is the point.

Target length

Ninety seconds to two minutes. Situation and Task: 20%. Action: 60%. Result: 20%.
